The McDonald’s story starts with one man.

ABOUT US

Back in 1954, a man named Ray Kroc discovered a small burger restaurant in California and wrote the first page of McDonald’s history. From humble beginnings as a small restaurant, we're proud to have become one of the world's leading restaurant chains with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.

|Taking shape|

In 1948

In 1948, brothers Dock and Mac McDonald decided to further optimize the operating model of McDonald's restaurants and launched a new iconic quick service system and 15-cent signature premium burgers. The innovative restaurant business model made the two brothers successful, and they began to expand by selling franchises. From 1948 to 1955, brothers Dock and Mike operated the restaurant.

In 1939

In 1939, Ray Kroc from Chicago was the exclusive distributor of a brand of milkshake blenders. In 1954, due to business connections, he first visited brothers Dock and Mike, and soon became their restaurant franchise agent. In April 1955, he opened his first McDonald's restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, USA.

In 1961

In 1961, Ray Kroc bought out the operating rights to McDonald's restaurants from brothers Dick and Mike for $2.7 million.

|Global development|

Ray Kroc's initial goal was to open about 1,000 restaurants in the United States, but the huge development potential of the McDonald's brand made him start to focus on the layout of overseas markets. In 1967, McDonald's opened its restaurants in Canada and Puerto Rico for the first time outside the United States, officially kicking off McDonald's development into the international market.
